Dr. John Turner, ’00: new Marian U. Black Leadership Director

Congratulations to Dr. John C. Turner, BCHS Class of 2000, who, on August 2024, started as the Inaugural Executive Director of the Black Leadership Initiative (BLI) at Marian University.

The Black Leadership Initiative will award 25 full-tuition scholarships each academic year to incoming first-year Black students at Marian University. The scholarship, combined with purposeful programming, and individualized support, will help ensure the academic success of each BLI Scholar.

Dr. Turner, while a student at BCHS, was a 1998 Center for Leadership Development Alumni, a part of the 1998 BCHS Football State Championship Team, and a 2000 All-Star State Marching Band member. John received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Indiana State University and PhD from Indiana University Indianapolis.
His favorite BCHS memory: as member of the BCHS football team, walking through the hallways, with the marching band in the lead, to assemblies where the students cheered for the team and sang the BCHS fight song before the big BCHS football games.
