Class of 1971 Alums travel again

Sherri Otto McCleod and Nina M. Ray (both of the class of 1971) reconnected thanks to their 50th reunion in September 2021 and decided to go on a Viking River Cruise together on the Duoro River in April 2022. They were old traveling buddies in high school, and after not really being in touch for 50 years, they immensely enjoyed the traveling experience together again. They visited wineries, old castles and buildings and just relaxed and watched the views. They even got lost a time or two (especially in Lisbon) but did make it on time for mass in a lovely very old local church, as the country was preparing for Easter.

J.T. Funk, ’01, BCHS VP of Advancement

BCHS is excited to welcome back BCHS graduate, J.T. Funk (Class of 2001) as the new Vice President of Institutional Advancement at Bishop Chatard.

Mr. Funk served on the faculty of Bishop Chatard for seven years as an English teacher and as department chair for three of those years before leaving education to practice law. “I am excited to bring my experiences, training, and personal qualities back to Catholic education, particularly Bishop Chatard, and I am excited to push myself in new ways,” Mr. Funk said. “I welcome the opportunity to learn from other school leaders and anticipate the challenges that will present themselves. I look forward to this opportunity to help Bishop Chatard continue to grow and excel in fulfilling its Catholic mission.”

Jess Friederick, ’18 , at the Super Bowl

Working at Super Bowl LVI — gaining experience in your major — win-win for Jess Friederick, BCHS Class of 2018.

As a sports management major at Trine University, she couldn’t pass up the chance to spend 10 days in Los Angeles in a program sponsored by Living Sport, an organization that provides work and study experiences for student interested in a sports career.

Said Jess of her experience: “While the SoFi stadium is incredible and a sight to see, it is a very complicated layout for fans who have never been there before,” … “The first people I got to help were the parents of the Los Angeles Rams punter Johnny Hekker. That was such a memorable experience. I also got to escort the president of NBC Sports News, Jon Miller, to his suite with his wife, and he texted me the next day to thank me for helping them after an hour of frustration looking for their seat!” 1
