The Class of 1996 held their 20-year reunion on Saturday, July 16, beginning with mass in the BCHS Chapel celebrated by classmate Fr. Zyg Mazanowski. A tour of the school followed and the reunion continued at the Cornerstone Coffee Shop at Moe and Johnny’s. The class especially remembered classmate Matthew Tyburski, with donations to install a brick paver in his memory near the football field entrance. (Click on a photo to view the slideshow).

Fellow Trojans, mark your calendars and watch the Hallmark Channel original film “Anything for Love” produced by Bishop Chatard alumna Jessica Yingling, Class of 1991. This film will premier on February 14, Valentine’s Day, on the Hallmark channel at 9/8c. Synopsis of the movie: Katherine, a high-powered executive who believes men are intimidated by her career, is persuaded by her friend to create an internet dating profile claiming she is an executive assistant. Meanwhile, Jack, a male nurse, creates his own internet dating profile without realizing his best friend has secretly changed his profession to be a doctor. They are matched and find themselves falling in love, but hiding their true identities proves far trickier than expected when Katherine’s ornery and controlling father ends up in the hospital under Jack’s care. DuJuan Daniels, BCHS Class of 1998, is back in town this February in his position as the national scout for the New England Patriots football team. He will be scouting at the NFL Scouting Combine held in Indy. Read the story of his journey from Mr. Football 1997 to national prominence. Congratulations on your accomplishments, DuJuan!

Dr. Elizabeth (Betsy) Groves-Egan, class of 1996, currently works as an ophthalmologist at St. Vincent Anderson Regional Hospital. Dr. Groves is able to spend a week every year, traveling to Guaymi, Panama and performing cataracts surgery on patients who travel for days to visit them. She and her team are providing sight for hundreds of patients at each trip, and in one case allowed a person to see their grandchild for the very first time!

Wenclewicz Insurance (Mark Wenclewicz ’98 and Scott Wenclewicz ’02) is excited to sponsor recent Bishop Chatard High School graduate Rob Dury (’13) in the 2013 Grange Insurance All-Star Classic! Dury will join with other top Indiana high school football players to compete in a north vs. south battle on July 19th at North Central High School. Kickoff is at 7 p.m. Proceeds from the game annually benefit both Camp Riley, a camping facility near Martinsville designed specifically for children with physical disabilities, and the Indiana Football Hall of Fame.

Tracy (Silvey) Daeger, class of 1998, was recognized as Teacher of the at Year at Rosa Parks-Edison Elementary School (Perry Township). Tracy teaches the 3rd Grade there. She, her husband, Tom, and their 2 children live on the south side of Indianapolis.

Noblesville student’s class project comforts children in crisis

It started out as a simple assignment in Mrs. Bond’s 8th-grade science class at Our Lady of Grace Catholic School in Noblesville. “Through this process, you all had to try to make a difference,” said Angela (Watts) Bond, BCHS Class of ’98,  as she addressed her students. One of her students was so inspired to make a difference, that her work started ‘Bella’s Crusade’,  which helps children of domestic violence. Justin Cooper, ’93, self-taught artist, blends layers of acrylic, oil, wet-sanded canvas and metallic leaf to create subtle pictures in the style of Christian art — but the subjects are animals, often with halos – and painted in a style similar to early Japanese printmaker and painter Katsushika Hokusai. His work was featured in exhibition as  “Missed The Boat”, presented in 2011 at the Primary Gallery, Murphy Art Center. In it, you can  see the influence of the Eastern Orthodox tradition of icon painting — in a raccoon’s halo, for example — and also the influence that the children’s literature classic, Aesop’s Fables, had.
